Great garage / workshop addition to assist with Distributor Tune Up. Suitable for checking ignition timing on automotive Engines, agricultural and marine engines (12V/DC).

Never Have To Worry About Running Out of Power

The cool thing about timing lights is that unlike a flashlight, you never have to worry about running out of power the light. That is, as long as your car runs and is connected to a working 12-volt battery. With the engine off, you merely clamp the timing light's red wire to the battery's positive terminal, then the black wire to the battery's negative terminal. Lastly, you take the signal wire and clamp directly to Number 1 spark plug wire.

Adjusting timing to specifications:

1.Loosen distributor hold down locking bolt located at Base of distributor enough so that distributor may be rotated back and forth.Do not overloosen or remove Bolt but leave tight enough to prevent distributor from turning by itself..
2.Startand run engine.
3.Direct timing light flash at timing marks and slowly rotate distributor right and left until timing marks are aligned with pointer.Stop engine.
4.Tighten distributor holddown bolt using care not tochange position of distributor.
5.Start engine and recheck timing.

Ergonomic Pistol Grip Design

First, you should know that timing lights come in a few different shapes and sizes.But most people would probably prefer the much cooler, ray gun-shaped, "pistol grip" variety.Because they're more ergonomic inside the close confines of a car's engine bay (yeah, that's it).
